Roulette Township will be conducting a system wide line flushing beginning at 9:00PM. The supervisors anticipate completion of the line flushing at or before 5:00AM on Thursday, September 9, 2010. During that time it is advisable to avoid use of the public water system. If you do have to use the water, avoid using the HOT water as it can draw unwanted sediment into your hot water tank. It is also advisable to flush out the lines in your home after the flushing, via an external hose bib or by turning on the cold water tap in your bathtub until the water runs clear.

The Camp Cadet Golf Tournament will be held at the Emporium Country Club. Registration is at 8:00 am; tournament starts at 9:00. Four Man Scramble with Shotgun start. The Potter County Education Council will hold a Pipe Welding Course at it’s Port Allegany Office. Natural Gas Exploration in the Marcellus Shale is anticipated to create a significant demand for Pipe Welders throughout Pennsylvania. This course will teach pipe welding based on the American Petroleum Institute Standards for the industry. Students will need to complete a test weld that will be evaluated by the instructor before admissions to the course. The fee for the course is $4,500 per student. The Potter County Education Council will be holding three SafeLand and OSHA 10 Certification courses in the upcoming month. The two industry standards for Safety Training for the Gas Industry are SafeLand Certification and OSHA 10 General Industry Certification. With these two certifications, you meet the basic safety training requirements of virtually every company in the industry. This course combines the SafeLand program with an OSHA 10 program allowing you to earn both certifications in one convenient class. The topics covered in each program are very similar, however they each have their own unique requirements. By lengthening the course by 4 hours, we are able to complete both certifications in 1 ½ days rather than two full 10 hour days. Upon successful completion of this 1 ½ day course, each student is issued a SafeLand Picture ID with a unique barcode and an OSHA 10 card. SafeLand Certification information will also be stored in a national database. Course Fee: $325 per person (group discounts are available, call for details). The Coudersport Council of the Knights of Columbus along with the Coudersport Area School District and the Falcon Football Team will once again sponsor the annual Punt, Pass, and Kick contest this year. Since this event is part of the national NFL Punt, Pass & Kick Competition, winners have the opportunity of going all the way to the national contest. While advancement in the national competition is by combined age groups (6/7,8/9, 10/11, 12/13, 14/15) and ribbons are provided by the national sponsors for both the boys and girls, the Knights of Columbus will add to the awards by providing trophies for the first, second, and third places in each individual age group competing. The trophies will be awarded by age group with no separation for the boys and girls. However, the boys and the girls in each combined age group will compete separately for the ribbons. Both the boy and the girl winner in each combined age group are eligible to advance to the sectional competition. The Knights will also sponsor trophies for the top three female overall winners. The age group for competition will be determined by the age of the youngsters as of December 31, 2010. According to the national rules, the competitors will be given only one attempt during competition. No football shoes, cleats, or turf shoes are permitted: only soft-soled sneakers will be allowed. It should be noted that valid birth certificates or baptismal documents will be required for the next level of competition. The competition is open to youngsters outside the local school districts if they choose to compete. At all levels of competition, including the local level, only the first place winner is eligible to advance. If for some reason that winner does not choose to advance then no one will advance to the next level. Each winner will be required to provide their own transportation to the next level of competition. Registration forms can be obtained from the physical education departments or the main offices at each of the area schools. The sponsors are asking that competitors register in advance. If a youngster is unsure of his ability to participate that day, he or she should register anyway. (This saves last minute registration hassles.) The gates to CARP will open at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, September 11th and check in must be completed by 10:30 A.M. The Roulette Township Supervisors are changing the September regular monthly meeting scheduled for Monday, September 13, 2010 at 5:00PM to Wednesday, September 15, 2010 at 5:00PM due to scheduling conflicts. The meeting will be held at the Roulette Township Building and the remaining monthly meetings will remain at their regularly scheduled dates and times. The meetings are open to the public.

The Potter County Education Council will hold a CDL Certification Course at the Port Allegany Office. The CDL A offering is a three (3) week one hundred sixty (160) hour comprehensive training program culminating in the awarding of a Commercial Drivers License by the state of Pennsylvania. Week One is classroom based. Monday, Tuesday and generally a portion of Wednesday is dedicated to the Pennsylvania written exam. The balance of the week is focused on the technical aspect of the career such as, but not limited to; mapping, trip planning, and log books. Week Two consists of range and road training. The range portion will have the student instructed in slow speed maneuvers. (Straight line backing, alley dock parking, parallel parking, coupling and uncoupling and air brakes.) The road training will consist of highway, city and rural roadways and may extend beyond the county limits based on geography and restrictions.Week Three will duplicate Week Two Monday through Wednesday. Thursday and Friday are used for the Pennsylvania Commercial Drivers License exam and review. All students are required to participate in an exit interview upon the successful completion of the state exam. The cost for this course is $4,995 per student. This 6 week Certified Well Tender Course covers many topics important to the Natural Gas Industry and is supported by over 35 gas companies in PA who have provided input into the course content and have had success hiring participants who have completed this program in other locations. Key topics covered during this course include: Identifying procedures and processes basic to producing transporting and distributing natural gas, maintaining a safe work environment, properties of fuel gases, controlling and preventing fires fueled by natural gas, duties and responsibilities of well tenders, physical structures and completion procedures common to gas storage wells, storage well operations, proper use of combustible gas indicator, proper use of buried pipe using pipe locating equipment, and routine maintenance and patrolling of facilities. This course also prepares you for your Class A CDL license with both classroom and behind the wheel experience. We have commitments from 6 firms to guarantee everyone who participates in this course with at least one interview. The course fee is $7,995 per student
(Participants may also be responsible for DOT Physical Exam, Drug Testing, State Permit Fees, License and Testing Fees, Motor Vehicle Record fees, Criminal Background Checks and Materials). The Potter County Education Council will hold a “Grant Writing and Budget Issues” Workshop at the Coudersport Office of the Potter County Education Council. A “hands-on” style fundamentals of searching for grants, writing grant proposals and understanding the administration that is associated with grants will be taught. Attendees will have the opportunity to work with an experienced grant writer and ask questions. The Potter County Education Council’s Coudersport Office will hold a “Basic Sign Language” Course. Whether you interact with hearing impaired family members and friends or clients at work, this is an opportunity to learn the basics of sign language from former Mansfield University Sign Language instructor, Lynn Stroud. This 6-week sign language workshop will teach students how to use the alphabet, short sign words, and read sign language from other people. It will also help hone skills for signing in schools, business, and for personal use. Dates for this course are Tuesdays and Thursdays beginning September 14 through October 21, 2010. Little Pine and Sinnemahoning State Parks are cooperating to offer a “Windows on the Wild: Biodiversity Basics” at the Western Clinton Sportsmen’s Association facility in Hyner, PA. This workshop is open to educators teaching at the middle school level only.By participating in this workshop, teachers will receive World Wildlife Fund’s Windows on the Wild –Biodiversity Basics student and teacher guides and the draft Pennsylvania supplemental guide to Windows on the Wild. Participants who complete the workshop will also receive 6.0 hours of continuing education credit for Act 48.The cost for this workshop is $15.00 (payable to the Pennsylvania Game Commission), and pre-registration is required. Join Sinnemahoning State Park’s Ranger for an afternoon lake clean-up from 1:00 to 4:00 pm.! The last several seasons have deposited old tires in the lake and along the shores, and the park could use some help removing them! Volunteers will climb aboard the park’s pontoon boat, armed with hooks and ropes, to pull the tires from the water and shoreline, and haul them back to the launch area where maintenance staff can pick them up for recycling. Gloves are recommended…. Come prepared to get wet! Meet at the Boat Launch Area. Austin Communities That Cares will host its 11th Annual Fall Festival September 26th from 12:00 noon to 4:00 pm on the town square. Annual Parade sponsored by Austin Boy Scouts will kick off at 11:30 am followed be Quarter Bingo at 12:30 pm, Pet Parade at 1:00 pm and Bed Races at 3:00 pm. Other activities throughout the day will include hayrides, 50/50 raffle, various other raffles, kids games, snowcones, crafts, food and beverages. The Coudersport Public Library will host a 5K Run to raise money for the building fund. Trophies will be awarded to the Overall First Place Finisher for men and women and medals will be presented to the first three place finishers in each sex and age division. Registration will be from 1:00 to 1:45 pm andthe race will start promptly at 2:00 pm. There will be a half mile Fun Run for kids at Mitchell Park. Sponsors who donate $100 or more will be listed on the back of tee shirts given to the first 75 runners. All others will be included in a sponsor pamphlet included in the goodie bag. Rep. Martin Causer (R-Turtlepoint) will host his Eighth Annual Senior Citizens Expo on at the University of Pittsburgh the Roulette Fire Hall on River Street. The free event will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., and lunch will be provided. State, county and local vendors will be on hand to distribute information and answer questions. Information about health care, insurance, nutrition and exercise, fire safety, financial planning, fraud protection, government services, hunting/fishing and personal safety will be available. The ‘Cashing in on Geocaching” conference will be held Friday, at the Emporium Country Club in Cameron County. Tourism business owners, trail groups, and community leaders are encouraged to attend. The agenda will include a keynote address about the impact of geocaching on our region; a demonstration of this popular activity; a panel discussion about the economic benefits of geocaching; information about geocaching on public lands and other rules; and real life insights from groups and businesses that have started their own geocaching trails or events or participated in existing ones with success. Admission will be $20, which includes a continental breakfast and lunch. Seating is limited to the first 100 people to register.
